Basics of Poker

Poker can be won in two main ways:

Reveal the best hand at the end of all the betting rounds. At the end of the betting round after the players turn their hands up to reveal their cards the player with the highest hand wins the pot.

Fold: If all your opponents don't match an opponents bet then its known as a "fold". If this happens then even if you did have the best hand or was bluffing it wouldn't matter because all players surrendered their chance of claiming the pot by not calling their cards.

Majority games require a blind or an ante bet. Each player will place a small sum of money into the pot if an ante is used in order for cards to be dealt to them. One player or more is entitled to make a wager or portion of a wager before he receives a card if blind bets are used. This requirement is moved around the table so that all players get a chance to pay their fair share.

Each time a round of cards is dealt, players have an opportunity to:

Bet,

Call (to match,a previous bet),

Raise (to call and then increase the previous bet)

Check (to refrain from betting)

Fold (forfeit interest in the pot by releasing their hand)

If no one calls and a player raises or bets, the pot then belongs to that player who called, the cards are then collected, shuffled, and the next hand begins. If there are two or more players then the player with the best hand gets rewarded the pot.

So with each round of play, your bankroll will rise if you win the pot, or decrease if you lose the pot. When all the players decide to quit playing or only one person has money in their bankroll the amount in your bankroll is the amount of money you will go home with.

While there are a variety of rules for each specific version, poker really is this simple. Yet within it being so easy there is also a structure that is involved in the game that is very fascinating. For most people whether they play seriously or just for fun its a real source of pleasure.
